Day 17

Basically, we went to the beach. There we met the couple whose boat broke off from the mooring line and crashed into the rocks. The hull is jammed against the reef. So, we offered to snorkel around with bags and pick up a lot of their stuff. We found, binoculars, their sewing machine, canned food, bags of bolts and washers, their computers (totally ruined), their camera, and a ton more. It was really fun to recover their lost things. They said that their clothes washed up, but then someone stole them. Well, that's Statia for ya! This couple was from Nova Scotia and had bought their 40' monohole sailboat in New Foundland. They sold their house, their cars and devoted themselves to their new boat. Their whole life was on this boat. When it crashed, they were taking a walk up to the fort. Luckily, they weren't on the boat when it crashed; they would be in the shape the boat is, smithereens. We also recovered their gas stove, their tools, and their kitchen knives. It was really cool to see what they had on their boat. A lot of it was things to fix the boat. The sewing machine was made to repair sails, if needed.
